POI Description EN:

Dating to around 520 B.C., the Temple of Poseidon stands at Palatia, in the saddle between the hills of Vigla and Profitis Ilias. The Doric peripteral building originally had six columns on its short sides and twelve on its long sides. It was one of three major sanctuaries dedicated to Poseidon in the Saronic region, forming a sacred triangle with the temples at Aegina and Cape Sounio. Nearby remains are associated with the Kalaureian bouleuterion, where representatives of seven cities in the amphictyony met, and with either a monument to Demosthenes or an asclepeion. Demosthenes sought asylum here while fleeing the Macedonians and died within the sanctuary in 322 B.C.

Το Ιερό του Ποσειδώνα, που χρονολογείται γύρω στο 520 π.Χ., βρίσκεται στα Παλάτια, στο διάσελο ανάμεσα στους λόφους Βίγλα και Προφήτης Ηλίας. Ο δωρικός περίπτερος ναός είχε αρχικά έξι κίονες στις στενές πλευρές και δώδεκα στις μακριές. Αποτελούσε ένα από τα τρία μεγάλα ιερά του Ποσειδώνα στον Σαρωνικό, σχηματίζοντας ένα νοητό ιερό τρίγωνο με τους ναούς της Αφαίας στην Αίγινα και του Ποσειδώνα στο Σούνιο. Κοντινά κατάλοιπα συνδέονται με το βουλευτήριο της Καλαυρείας, όπου συναντιούνταν οι εκπρόσωποι επτά πόλεων, καθώς και με μνημείο του Δημοσθένη ή ασκληπιείο. Ο Δημοσθένης κατέφυγε εδώ και πέθανε στο ιερό το 322 π.Χ.
