The cathedral church of Saint George stands in the heart of the upper town of Poros. The earliest surviving written reference to the church appears in the island's population census of 1828, during the governorship of Ioannis Kapodistrias. The church is widely known for its wall paintings, created by Kostas Parthenis, one of the most important Greek painters. Its interior, with the carved wooden iconostasis and the painted dome, together with the stepped lanes that climb up to it, make it one of the most characteristic sights of the old town.

Ο μητροπολιτικός ναός του Αγίου Γεωργίου βρίσκεται στο κέντρο της απάνω πόλης του Πόρου. Η παλαιότερη γραπτή αναφορά που γίνεται για τον ναό, από τα σωζόμενα έγγραφα, εντοπίζεται στην απογραφή πληθυσμού του νησιού του έτους 1828, επί των ημερών του Κυβερνήτη Ιωάννη Καποδίστρια. Ο ναός είναι ευρέως γνωστός εξαιτίας των αγιογραφιών που έχει φιλοτεχνήσει ένας από τους σημαντικότερους Έλληνες ζωγράφους, ο Κώστας Παρθένης. Το εσωτερικό του, με το ξυλόγλυπτο τέμπλο και τον ζωγραφισμένο τρούλο, μαζί με τα σκαλωτά σοκάκια που ανεβαίνουν ως εκεί, τον καθιστούν ένα από τα πιο χαρακτηριστικά σημεία της παλιάς πόλης.
